User Generated Content Defined

 |
User generated content (UGC, often hyphenated), also known as Consumer Generated Media (CGM) or User created Content (UCC), refers to various kinds of media content, publicly available, that are produced by end-users.
The term entered mainstream usage during 2005 having arisen in web publishing and new media content production circles. Its use for a wide range of applications including problem processing, news, gossip and research reflects the expansion of media production through new technologies that are accessible and affordable to the general public. All digital media technologies are included, such as question-answer databases, digital video, blogging, podcasting, mobile phone photography and wikis. In addition to these technologies, user generated content may also employ a combination of open source, free software, and flexible licensing or related agreements to further reduce the barriers to collaboration, skill-building and discovery.
Sometimes UGC can constitute only a portion of a website. For example on Amazon.com the majority of content is prepared by administrators, but numerous user reviews of the products being sold are submitted by regular visitors to the site.
Often UGC is partially or totally monitored by website administrators to avoid offensive content or language, copyright infringement issues, or simply to determine if the content posted is relevant to the site's general theme. (wikipedia.com)

User Generated Content - Blogs, Forums, Reviews Mom Bloggers Fuel Online Brand Talk | clipped by: fuordigital
Mom Bloggers Fuel Online Brand Talk
More than three-quarters of mothers who blog in the US review products, according to recently released data from Mom Central Consulting.
The company also found that one-half of responding moms reviewed Websites or services.
Mom bloggers may be especially open to contact from brands in the current economic environment: More than 60% of mom bloggers considered making money important and wanted more connectivity with companies; over one-third (37%) said they had already been contacted as a resource for the press.
Working with mom bloggers makes sense because the Internet is a leading conversation starter about products and brands among new and expectant mothers, according to a January 2008 study by BabyCenter and Keller Fay Group.

Wouldn’t you love to know what consumers are saying about your brands, whether they were discussing in forums, via email, surveys or on blogs? BzzAgent and Attensity are joining forces to offer marketers this type of monitoring.
International word-of-mouth (WOM) network BzzAgent is teaming up with text analytics software company Attensity to provide what they describe as “unrivaled insights” into conversations about brands.
“We’ve been sitting on a proverbial gold mine filled with more than a million reported conversations,” said BzzAgent’s founder and CEO, Dave Balter. “Attensity’s solution will allow our clients to reap the fullest benefits of marketing’s most precious resource: consumer opinions.”
Each month, BzzAgent’s volunteers submit around 100,000 reports. Attensity’s text analytics technology will analyze the data contained within these reports to identify “facts, sentiment, opinions, requests, trends, and trouble spots".
